Mac Studio Waterweight Foundation

On most days I don’t like to go for a super heavy coverage foundation. I gravitate towards BB creams or some type of lightweight foundation. When Mac Cosmetics came out with this  Studio Waterweight Foundation I was intrigued. It seemed like everything I would want in a day to day foundation. So, I went to my local Mac store, got shade matched, and got a sample of this foundation. I was really impressed with it and decided I needed the full size.

The key claims that I found on the Mac website for this foundation makes are:

  • Provides comfortable, all-day wear
  • Provides instant and all-day hydration
  • Controls oil
  • Offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30
  • Provides stay-true colour
  • Non-caking and streak-resistant
  • For all skin types
  • Non-acnegenic
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Oil-free

This foundation is $39.50 (CAD) for 1 fl. oz or 30 ml. It’s pretty on par with the rest of Mac’s foundations price wise. It comes in 23 different shades ranging from NW13 to NW50. If you’ve never been colour matched at a Mac store I definitely recommend that instead of eyeballing it. I thought I was a completely different shade than I actually am. I have mine in the lightest shade NW13.

This foundation is extremely liquidy (is that a word?). It comes out in a dropper form and I use about 6 drops (give or take) to cover my whole face. It has light coverage but it is buildable. It looks like you have nothing on your skin which I think is the look most of us are going for. If you’re someone with problematic skin I wouldn’t recommend this because it doesn’t cover very well but just nicely evens out the skin tone. For me, I got in with a good concealer if I feel like I need it on the face. Since this is so watery it doesn’t feel very comfortable on the skin but doesn’t last all day. I would say it lasts about 6 hours before I started to notice any fading.

My favourite way to apply this foundation is with my fingers or with a synthetic brush like, one of the Sigma kabuki foundation brushes or the Real Techniques expert face brush. I find this way the brush doesn’t absorb too much product and leaves a flawless finish on the skin. It even works well just using your fingers.

I would recommend this foundation if you’re looking for something lightweight and very comfortable on the skin. This product is worth the buy!
