5 Things I Learned About Having Eyelash Extensions

After years and years of not liking my lashes, I decided to give lash extensions a try. Every day I want to wear mascara I have to curl them, put on waterproof mascara, then put on regular mascara. My lashes are decently long but stick straight and I hate having to go at them with a curler everyday. So, when my friend got eyelash extensions and they looked amazing, I booked an appointment to get them done!  Today I’ll be talking all about the 2 months I had eyelash extensions.

  1. They are addicting. It’s amazing how just having long, curled eyelashes can change your whole face. They open up your eyes and make it so that you don’t really need to put much makeup on. That being said, of course I still wore makeup. It was so nice waking up in the morning, brushing out my lashes, and just going on with my day. I felt totally made up even though I wasn’t wearing that much, or any, makeup. Not only do they give you more length but they sort of pick up your own lashes and make them curled.
  2. They are high maintenance.  There are also so many don’ts for having lash extensions. You can’t/shouldn’t rub your eyes, wear mascara on your top lashes, let the shower stream hit your face for too long, wash your face with an oil based cleanser. You should however try to sleep on your back, wash them with a gentle cleanser (my aesthetician recommended Johnson’s Baby Shampoo), and brush them out at least once a day. I brushed my out a couple times a day so they wouldn’t cross over each other or poke me in the eye.
  3. It’s hard to sit still for 2-3 hours. Not only that, you had to keep your eyes closed. All I wanted to do was open my eyes. I did my best not to think about and keep my mind on something else but it was hard. I actually fell asleep while I was getting them filled once.
  4. You can get different lengths. I think this is great. You can customize how long and dramatic you want your lashes. The aesthetician I went to had 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm. I chose to get a mixture of 10’s and 12’s. I thought this would give my lashes more of a realistic look and also would give me the drama without with too much.
  5. They last different on everyone. Because the extensions are attached to your own eyelash, they fall out with your own lashes. I had to get mine filled about every 2 1/2 weeks. But, my friend who got them done could go every 3 weeks. It all depends on how quickly your own lashes fall out. I don’t think the humidity this summer helped.

I will definitely get them again but I won’t get them just to have them. If I was going to get them it would be for a vacation of for a special occasion.
