My Search for the Perfect Primer

I love a good face primer as much as the next beauty lover but I always found that I was doing it as a step because I thought I had to. The primers I have used in the past didn’t do anything magical for my makeup so I had given up on primers. But, with all of these amazing bloggers and youtubers I follow being so crazy about primers, I figured I should give it another go.

Today, I’ll be talking about face primers and the ones I plan on putting to the test.

Face primers may seem like an extra step in your makeup routine but they can completely transform your makeup game. You cam get primers to illuminate your skin, mattify your skin, blur pores, hydrate your skin, and there are also colour correcting primers. The most important thing is to get a primer that will work for your skin. Do your research!

Primers can be purchased at any price range but unfortunately, the drugstore doesn’t have a ton of options for face primers. If you want the most choice and most options, high end is where you’ll have the most luck.

For pore blurring I chose the ever-famous Benefit Porefessional. This primer is meant to smooth the skin and blur all of your pores. It can be worn under makeup or alone to smooth skin. This primer is also a bit mattifying. It is $42 (CAD).

I had heard so many great things about the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water that I had to give it a try. I love a good face mist and if it’s made to hydrate and prep my skin for makeup, I’m totally on board. This primer water is meant to hydrate, prep, and refresh the skin. It can be worn under makeup or refresh the skin throughout the day. It is $39 (CAD)

Since I love the skincare brand The Ordinary so much I wanted to try one of their primers so I got the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer. This is meant to be a serum-like primer and help with the spreadability of your foundation. This also hydrates and helps with a natural, dewy makeup look. It is $7.90 (CAD).

I was looking on the Sephora website (as I do daily) for a new primer and came across the Huda Beauty The Complexion Perfection Pre Makeup Base Primer. I have been impressed with everything I have tried from Huda Beauty and thought this would be great. This primer creates a smooth, moisturized base while gripping onto makeup to help it last through the day. It is $45 (CAD).

I’ll plan to update you all hopefully in future blog posts with the results and how I like each of the primers!

What is your favourite primer? I need my holy grail! Leave it below!
