5 Beauty Crimes You May Be Committing

Most of us have our own little routine when it comes to beauty. Our routine may take us 5 minutes or 5 hours but, we have all been guilty a time or two of forgetting something, skipping something over completely or just not knowing how to apply something correctly! I, personally, have been guilty of all of these.

Although some of these beauty crimes may be totally harmless, but some can lead to irritation, breakouts, and uneven looking skin.

Today, I’ll be going over some beauty crimes you may be committing give you a bit of advice on how to rectify them.

First beauty crime is a big one and one that I committed for years; using skincare not appropriate for your skin type. There are a few types of skin: normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive. Does your skin get oily all over after a few hours? Do you just get oily in your t-zone? Does it feel like a cold drink of water when you apply moisturizer? All of these questions can determine your skin type! Do your research before you buy your skincare. And be sure to by products that will work for your skin.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! You should be exfoliating everything. Your face, your body, your lips. Depending on your skin depends on how often you can exfoliate so listen to your skin when it talks. Exfoliating helps eliminate dead skin cells that sit on your skin. This helps your skin to look smoother and your makeup to apply better. The same goes for your lips. Sorry to say it but lipstick doesn’t look amazing on cracked, dry lips. There are a ton of exfoliators on the market and even DIY ones that are everywhere on the internet.

Colour matching with foundation can be tricky business. With all the different shades, different undertones, and all that. The best piece of advice I can give you is, well, first off to test out the colour. Second, the best place to test our if the foundation is the right colour is actually your jawline. Testing out foundation colour on your hand is a waste of time. Hold your hand up to your face, they are completely different colours. Mismatched foundation is never a good look.

If you didn’t know, I’m here to tell you, makeup expires folks. Yes, all makeup expires. Obviously cream products expire quicker than powder products but eventually, they all go bad. There are a ton of posts on what expires when but I will tell you, mascara expires in 3 months from opening and foundation expires 6-12 months from opening. Now, you may be saying, who cares? But, using expired products on your face can cause irritation and breakouts. I’ve personally had a stye on my eye from using a dumb expired liquid eyeliner. Stay woke folks.

The last beauty crime I’ll talk about today is another big one. Please, for the love of god, take off your makeup before you go to bed. Not only is it a little gross but haven’t product on your face for that long can, again, cause irritation. It can clog your pores, make your skin create more oils because it’s trying to product itself, and breakout. It can also irritate your eyes to not remove your eye makeup. Every time I accidentally fall asleep with my makeup on, it’s a giant face palm and I take my ass to the bathroom to remove it immediately.

This post isn’t meant to throw shade in any way. I have and continue to commit some of these crimes. I want us all to be the most amazing we can be and hopefully this helped!

If you want to know any more beauty crimes I think some of us may be committing, let me know!
