My Hair History

I’m the type of person who loves to switch up my hair colour. I’m sure sometimes I frustrate/excite my hairstylist sometimes but she seems to be up for whatever I have in my head. I always feel like a completely new and refreshed person when I switch up my hair colour. It is one of those things that can really boost my self confidence.

Today I’ll be going through a bit of my hair history. I can’t go through all of it because I have had every colour under the sun from black to blonde to red and everything in between. I do have to preface this post by saying not all of these photos are amazing quality. Some of them were taken years ago before good iPhones and FaceTune.

I, of course, had to start with one of the only photos I have of my natural hair colour. My natural hair colour is a neutral-toned medium brown. I started/highlighting my hair when I was about 14. And since then, I have gone on a few rampages.

I have gone way way way too blonde. I loved this colour when I had it but looking back it looked unnatural on me. Fun fact: before I was this blonde I had black hair which I boxed dyed on the regular. My hair dresser was a little annoyed with me when I told her I wanted to go blonde after using black hair dye.

I also did and loved the ombre trend. It was so easy to maintain and really flattering. I love that this trend happened and is still happening. The trend is to have your hair a little more subtle of an ombre now but still, amazing!

I searched far and wide to find a photo of me with red hair but this one was the best I could do. I absolutely loved it when I had it but when I inevitably decided to switch it up it was so hard to get away from. It was also so hard to maintain. I had to get my hair done about once I month. I really miss the red, though. But, I would never go back.

I do really like the way I look with dark hair. I think it really suits my skin tone and makes the green in my eyes really pop. I’m not sure I’ll ever go this dark again but I look at photos of this hair every now and then and fall in love.

For my sisters wedding, I wanted a hair colour that I knew would look good with her hair colour and would also look great in photos. It was a nice warm, medium brown with some caramel highlights. I love having lightness around my face to frame it.

As someone who has had love hair for their entire adult life, I decided to do a nice little cut of my hair. It might not look short to you but when I cut it, I cut about 8 inches off. It made me feel so light and made my hair feel so healthy. I’m currently growing my hair out again but I loved this short hair on me.

And this is where I am currently. I’m quite blonde for the summer and have lots of face framing layers. As for keeping my hair healthy, I have to attribute the entire thing to my hair stylist. She is very gentle when dying my hair and doesn’t go too extreme. She has been dying my hair for about 4 years now and I trust everything she does with my hair.

If you’re looking for a great hair stylist in the Halifax area, I can’t recommend Ayla Singer at Bowtique enough.

What is your hair history like? Have you dyed your hair a lot?
